This month we were delighted to publish a bibliography of Arabic translations of Wilde, generously compiled for us by Christopher S. Nassaar (American University, Beirut). No such bibliography has been compiled before now.

3. Al-Amir Al-Saeed Wa Akasees Ukhra: The Happy Prince and Other Tales. Translated by Hasan Al-Bahri. Damascus: Dar Al-Yaktha, 1953. Contains The Happy Prince, The Nightingale and the Rose, The Selfish Giant, The Devoted Friend, and The Young King.
4. Masrahiyyat Al-Fawdawiyyoun: The Anarchists, A Play. [Vera] Translated by Abdul-Majid Haseeb Al-Qaisi. Baghdad: Maktabat Al-Nahda, 1960.
5. Masrahiyyat Al-Lady Windermere Wa Masrahiyyaat Ukhra: Lady Windermere's Fan and Other Plays. Translated by Helmi Mourad. Cairo: Maktabat Misr, 1991. The other plays in this volume are not by Wilde.

7. Salome Wa Masrahiyyaat Ukhra: Salome and Other Plays. Translated by Helmi Mourad. Cairo: Maktabat Misr, (1993?). The other plays are not by Wilde.

Professor Nassaar adds 'This is an incomplete bibliography. There are probably more such translations of Wilde that I was unable to track down, since he is very popular throughout the Arab world. Interestingly, to my knowledge no one has yet ventured to translate The Importance of Being Earnest into Arabic. The publishing centers in the Arab world are Cairo and Beirut. Before Saddam, Baghdad was the third such center'.
