De Profundis

August 2008; corrected and updated October 2009

Our rough-and-ready guide to further reading on De Profundis, compiled by D.C. Rose and Michelina Cersosimo.  We hope to add more as time goes on, especially if we can fill the great gap in our research for the years between 1916 and 1960.  All contributions will be acknowledged.

We have been able to republish some of these articles.  Click where you see the sunflower.

Bruce Bashford is listed twice with two different articles, but it is merely the same article just reprinted under a different title: Bashford, Bruce. ‘Fathoming the Soul in De Profundis.’ Oscar Wilde, the Critic as Humanist. Madison: Farleigh Dickinson UP, 1999. Rpt. of ‘Oscar Wilde as Theorist: The Case of De Profundis.’ English Literature in Transition 28.4 (1985): 396-406

Rpt. in Idylls of the Market Place: Oscar Wilde and the Victorian Public. Ed. Regenia Gagnier. Stanford: Stanford UP, 1986. 177-195. (This article is already listed, but listed twice. It’s merely a reprint)

Pyke, Rafford. ‘Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis’.  Ed. William Barry. The Bookman. London: Dodd, Mead and Co., 1905. 628-629. (This is listed above but has Barry as the author of the article.)
